Are you asking yourself: How can I help someone to stop smoking?

Where ever we go we are surrounded by smokers, and it is more than likely that we know several and are probably related to a few too. This has led many a friend and acquaintance to ask me a question that you may have often asked yourself. The question is, how can I help someone to stop Smoking?

And the truth is that it is very difficult to help or get other poeple to stop smoking, no matter how much you love and care for them. The first thing you should take into account is, do they want to stop smoking? Because if they don't, you are facing an extremely difficult uphill struggle.

Most smokers know that smoking is bad for them, so if your approach is based on health issues, then you are surely facing a losing battle. As a hypnotherapist and friend of smokers i know very well that telling someone who doesn't want to stop smoking about emphysema, bronchitis, cancer and the umpteen other illneses brought on by smoking is pointless.

Smokers, know and don't care. And they will feel that you are patronising them! Because they know those things a
nd yet they still smoke. Even a serious health scare to themselves or a family member is often not enough to get them to stub out their cigarettes.

If you concentrate on the health issues you will only end up with a smoker whoresents you (no matter how good your intentions are) and they probablr smoke more.

So when you ask yourself the quesion, how can I help someone to stop smoking? You should support them and let them know that you're there to help if they need it. But it needs to be done subtly, they too are intelligent and will see right through your desires.

It's very important that they want to stop smoking. However, I've often heard cases of family members or friends showing smokers close up images of smoke damaged lungs and organs, clogged veins and the amount of tar a smoker puts into their body every year (about a cupfull), and this has actually worked.

I've also heard friends or family members taking up smoking themselves to scare the smoker into quitting, this has also worked. But be very careful if you attempt either of these two ideas, it is important to know how the smoker will react, if you suspect that it will anger them, then do not do it!

The two best ways to help someone quit are to get them to use their fear of the things they will lose if they continue smoking (years of their own life, seeing their children/ grandchildren growing up ect.) or get them to see and use their desire for more money, better health and a brighter future without smoking.

So when you think how can I help someone to stop smoking?, remeber that the emotions of fear and desire will be your and their biggest and best friends. And also ask yourself, how would you feel if someone tried to make you stop doing something you really enjoyed or just couldn't give up? What would work best for you?

Often what works for you will work for them!

Hope this helps!

What is hypnosis?

A lot of my friends and clients who aren't familiar with hypnossi, as well as much of the general public, wonder what exactly it is, and how and why it works.

And it's an interesting set of questions. But the simplest answer is: It is just a state of mind, where you are more relaxed and can threrfore much more easily accept suggestions of change. Much more easily than you can change yourself when you are 'awake' or are using your conscious mind.

So when you are hypnotised you are more relaxed than normal, and as a result you can get in touch with your subconscious mind much more easily. Your subconscious mind controls everything you do, so when you give it suggestions when you are in a relaxed state of mind, it accepts them much more freely!

So hypnosis is just a state of mind! And in that state of mind you can make any behavioural change that you want, but only if you want to. And that is where the answer to the next two questions lie: How and why does hypnosis work?

Again, that is simple - It works because a.) you want it to, and b.) because you believe it will. If you come to me or to any other hynotherapist and truly want to change yourself, then we can help. But if you come with the attitude that you are going to prove to us that we can't hypnotise or hlep you, then guess what? It won't work!

Some of my friends have also asked me the following question: Does the very fact that people see you in your suit with your certificates and having heard about how you've helped others stop smoking make them believe that you can help? And does that belief play a part in your and their success?

I can answer that question in one simple word: YES!!! Hypnosis works because you believe it will, I as a hypnotherapist have no control or power over you. But your belief and my techniques when combined can help you to stop smoking and cheive your goals!

So is it a con? Well no, of course not. When a professional athelete takes up a sport they succeed for two reasons a.) they want to and b.) they believe they will succeed! It is on this same principle that hypnosis works!

If you come to me for help be prepared and want to be a success, knowing that your belief and my proven techniques work together to help you acheive your goals!

It sounds like a cliche but it's all in your mind, both failure and success. The way you look at and approach any situation affects the outcome. Want to succeed and you will, hold back and remian doubtful and you'll surely produce poorer results.

Hope this helps and has cleared up what hypnosis is for you!
