Why Are You Quitting Smoking?

I have been thinking about the new year and how many smokers decide that their new year's resolution is to quit smoking! And this is great news and a good idea for tons of reasons.

But have you thought about why you are quitting? I mean, are you doing it because you think you should, you are being pressured from your doctor family or friends, or are you doing it because you really want to?

It's is obviously a good idea to quit but doing it for the right reasons is another matter entirely, and a major peoint you may not realise is that your reasons for quitting have to be exactly that - YOUR reasons for quitting.

I say this is important because if you don't quit for yourself, you face a few dangers. Firstly you run the risk of falling out with the person that is forcing you to quit as you may end up resenting them for pressuring you into it. And you may actually end up smoking more as a result.

Secondly, you probably won't put your heart and soul into it and you won't be in the right mental state. The most likely outcome is that you will fail, which is obviously bad. But even what's even worse and something you probably haven't considered is the knowck on effects.

In the back of your mind you will be tellling yourself that you failed, so any future attempts are likely to go the same way. So when you really do want to quit, your mind will be telling you that you tried before, but failed! So it will be even more difficult for you!

The third problem is that you will be putting yourself under undue stress - if you don't want to quit you're just punishing yourself, as you are 'giving up' something you actually want.

So now you see, that quitting for yourself is extremely important! Only you can decide when the time is right! Whether that is now, new week or in the new year! But when you do decide to stop smoking make sure you really want to. Yes go ahead and ask for your family and friends' support but quit for yourself and want it to happen for you!
